INSTRUCTOR
Maria Flis
Maria was born in Yavoriv, Ukraine (near Lviv). After migrating to the United States, she began her dance training at the Voloshky School of Ukrainian Dance at the age of ten. She took part in Voloshky School’s annual dance academies, studying under Stepan Zabredovsky, Dean of Faculty and Professor of Ukrainian dance at Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts and soloists with the Virsky National Ensemble. At age 16, Maria was accepted into the Voloshky Ensemble, where she continues to dance today. In 2012, Maria had the privilege to take part in New York choreographer Mark Morris’ newly commissioned piece in collaboration with the Voloshky Ensemble and the Zoriany Dance Ensemble of Kirovohrad, Ukraine. Maria also has training in jazz and ballroom dance, and has recently obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
